The Brand Map of New York Cannabis: Who's Strongest, and Where

1,188 brands sold $1.15 billion of product this year. One brand is #1 in four of seven regions — and it's losing share in every one of them.

Watch the story

Estimated retail sell-through, January 1 – September 16, 2026 (statewide), with regional exports as dated in the method note. New York 420 Week, Issue 13.

Through September 16, New York's licensed dispensaries sold an estimated $1.15 billion across 1,188 brands and 31.9 million items. The single biggest brand in the state holds 4.1% of that money.

That number is the market in miniature. Nobody owns New York cannabis — the top ten brands together take about 28% of dollars, a flatter field than most mature state markets — and the fight for shelf position is happening region by region, with different winners in different places. This issue maps it: the statewide leaderboard, who's actually gaining, and who is strongest in each of seven regions of the state.

The statewide top ten

9Find (Curaleaf)$25.1M337K$74.462.19%
10Off Hours$23.3M770K$30.292.03%

The price column still tells the structural story. The #1 brand sells at $23.70 an item — the cheapest in the top ten. The #2 brand sells at $63.00. Both lanes reach the top; the leaderboard alternates between volume plays (ayrloom, Florist Farms, Off Hours) and premium ones (Rythm, Fernway, Find at $74.46) almost line by line. What the list doesn't reward is the undifferentiated middle.

The next ten: brands 11–20

20Hashtag Honey$14.4M493K$29.161.25%1.05%

The band from 11 to 20 is tightly packed — $14.4M to $18.2M, with four brands inside $600K of each other at 14th through 17th — and it runs the same price barbell as the top ten: Rove at $66.97 and Select at $52.43 on one end, Leal, Camino and Hashtag Honey under $31 on the other.

What separates this band from the top ten is direction. Nine of the ten are flat or losing share against their year-to-date average. The exception is Stiiizy at #19, the fastest riser in the entire state — at 1.57% of dollars over the last 30 days it is already out-earning everything above it back to #11, and on current trend it exits the year inside the top ten. The steepest decline in the band is Hashtag Honey (1.25% → 1.05%), which is increasingly a Queens brand rather than a statewide one.

Brands 21–30

29Pax$10.2M$59.140.89%0.77%
30Back Home Cannabis Co.$9.9M$42.130.86%0.89%

This is the hottest band on the board. Four of the ten are gaining on their year-to-date average — Jeeter (+0.39 points, the largest gain anywhere in the top 50), Untitled (+0.29), Grassroots (+0.23) and Cannabals (+0.20) — while Heavy Hitters, Grön and Wyld hold flat. If the last 30 days persist, Jeeter and Untitled both finish the year inside the top 20.

39matter. (PharmaCann)$7.9M$68.990.69%0.25%
40Bodega Boyz$7.6M$45.170.66%0.96%

Two climbers stand out: Bouket (+0.36) and Bodega Boyz (+0.30), both on clear late-summer runs. The band also holds the two most expensive names in the top 50 — Grocery at $143.71 an item and Smoakland at $96.25 — and its steepest decline: matter. (PharmaCann) at −0.44 points, which now earns most of its keep in the Bronx.

Brands 41–50

49NY Honey$6.0M$39.590.53%0.41%
50Spacebuds$5.8M$56.370.51%0.42%

The price of admission to New York's top 50 is $5.8M of estimated retail — out of 1,188 brands that recorded a sale this year. The band is quiet: no one here moved more than ±0.14 points, and the back half (Boutiq, NY Honey, Spacebuds) is drifting down toward the exit.

One number for the whole list: the top 50 take 64% of every dollar in the state — $734M of $1.15B — leaving 1,138 brands to split the rest.

Who's actually gaining

A year-to-date ranking is an average. Comparing each top brand's share of statewide dollars against its most recent 30 days (August 10 – September 8) shows where the market is going:

Gaining: Stiiizy (1.30% → 1.57%, +0.27 points), Ruby Farms (2.44% → 2.71%, +0.27), Florist Farms (+0.12), MFNY and Off Hours (+0.06 each). Ruby Farms was still climbing in the most recent week, to 2.77%.

Losing: Dank. by definition. is the largest decline in the state — 2.30% year to date to 1.57% in the last 30 days, a third of its share gone from its own average. Hashtag Honey (−0.21), Select (−0.17), Leal and Rove (−0.15 each) follow. And ayrloom, still #1 by a wide margin, slipped from 4.13% to 3.89% to 3.82% in the latest week — the same slow leak it has shown all year.

The statewide picture confirms what the Manhattan data showed in July: Ruby Farms and Stiiizy are the two brands taking meaningful share in 2026, and the erosion at Dank has accelerated rather than stabilized.

The brand map: #1 in each region

Staten IslandStiiizy3.55%Jan 1 – Sep 15
Long IslandRythm (GTI)6.85%Jan 1 – Sep 6
Upstateayrloom5.00%May 5 – Aug 2

ayrloom takes four of the seven regions — Manhattan, Queens, the Bronx, and upstate, where its 5.0% share is its strongest anywhere. The other three regions went to three different brands, and each tells its own story.

Brooklyn belongs to Ruby Farms. It out-sells ayrloom there $4.9M to $3.5M — 4.50% of the borough against ayrloom's 3.23%. Brooklyn is the borough that pushes ayrloom into second place, and it's no coincidence that it went to the fastest-climbing brand in the state.

Staten Island belongs to Stiiizy. ayrloom falls to #5 there — its only region outside the top two — while Stiiizy leads at 3.55%, running 2.7× its statewide share. Dank. by definition. and Ruby Farms sit second and third. Staten Island's shelf looks the least like the rest of the city's.

Long Island belongs to Rythm — decisively. Its 6.85% of Long Island dollars is the single strongest regional position held by any brand anywhere in New York, and it's a $64 premium vape brand doing it. The whole GTI house travels with it: Good Green runs 4.3× its statewide share on the Island, &Shine 4.7×. Long Island is the state's most expensive market ($41.72 an item), and its brand list reads accordingly — Fernway second at 5.47%.

Local heroes

Some brands barely register statewide but dominate a single geography — the clearest evidence that New York is several markets wearing one license regime:

  • Doobie Labs — 5.3× its statewide share on Staten Island
  • matter. (PharmaCann) — 3.7× in the Bronx, where sister brand LivWell runs 2.9×
  • Leal — 2.5× in the Bronx, where it's the #2 brand outright at 3.77%
  • Hashtag Honey — 2.3× in Queens, the #5 brand there
  • Bloom — 3.0× in Manhattan, continuing the borough's low-dose, hardware-heavy tilt

The Bronx deserves its own note: it's the value borough ($19.44 average ayrloom item, the lowest anywhere) and simultaneously PharmaCann's best market — a barbell rather than a contradiction. Queens is the only borough where Dank. by definition. still holds a top-two position (#2 at 3.52%) despite its statewide slide.

Upstate, the #2 brand is Florist Farms at 3.71% — the Cortland-grown brand runs materially stronger north of the city than in it — with Jaunty third. Upstate is 46.6% of the state's dollars, so ayrloom's 5.0% there is the single largest brand-region cash position in New York: about $9.4M in 90 days.

The house always wins

Roll individual brands up to their parent companies and the leaderboard changes at the top:

  • Curaleaf (Find, Grassroots, Select, Anthem, B Noble, JAMS) — $68.4M, 5.97% of the state
  • Green Thumb Industries (Rythm, Dogwalkers, Good Green, incredibles, &Shine, Beboe, Dr. Solomon's) — $53.9M, 4.70%
  • ayrloom (single brand) — $47.4M, 4.13%
  • Kiva (Camino, Lost Farm, Kiva) — $20.1M, 1.75%

The biggest brand in New York isn't a brand — it's a portfolio. Curaleaf's six lines out-sell every single brand in the state including ayrloom, and GTI's seven aren't far behind. The multi-brand house covers several price tiers and regions at once, which is exactly what this fragmented, regionally divided market rewards.

What to do with this

If you're a brand: the state ranking flatters incumbents; the regional map is where the actual battles are. Brooklyn and Staten Island prove the #1 position is winnable borough by borough — both were taken by challengers, not the statewide leader.

If you're a retailer: Ruby Farms and Stiiizy are the two brands gaining share statewide right now, and Dank. by definition. has lost a third of its share since its year-to-date average. Match the shelf to your borough, not to the state — a Staten Island shelf and a Bronx shelf should not look alike.

If you're watching ayrloom: four regional crowns and a slow statewide leak can both be true. The question for 2027 is whether Brooklyn was the exception or the preview.

Method and limits

Statewide figures are from a brand-level export of all licensed NY dispensaries dated through September 17, 2026, reported here as January 1 – September 16 (the final export day is a partial pull). Borough figures are from separate borough-tagged exports through September 16, reported as January 1 – September 15 on the same convention. Long Island runs January 1 – September 6; upstate is derived by subtracting the downstate export from the statewide export over their common May 5 – August 2 window, on the provider's 617-store regional tagging. Momentum compares year-to-date share with the August 10 – September 8 and September 2 – 8 statewide windows.

The five borough brand exports total $457.8M, about 94% of the $486.1M five-borough store total published in Issue 07–12 — brand-attributed dollars run below store-level totals, so regional shares are computed within each export and never summed across files. Region definitions follow the provider's tagging, not census boundaries. All figures are the analytics provider's estimates of retail sell-through, not audited sales; no margin, distribution-breadth, or profitability data is included.
