Manhattan is the biggest market at $235.8M, 18.2% of the state, from 97 stores. It also leads on sales per resident at $142. That number runs high because commuters and visitors buy in Manhattan but aren't counted as residents.

Long Island is the outlier. It ranks third in total sales ($173.3M) with only 19 stores for 2.9 million residents. The average Long Island store sold $9.12M, about 3.8 times the average Manhattan store ($2.43M). Six of the state's ten biggest stores are on Long Island.

How we did it

Sales are Lit Alerts estimates built by sampling public dispensary menus, not point-of-sale data, so read any single store's number as an estimate. The period runs from January 1 through October 1, 2026. October 1 was a partial day in the export.

Each store was joined to its OCM licence by name and address to get its location, county and region. A "chain" is any operator with two or more selling stores, grouped by the name on the door. 4 stores in the sales data (together about $71K) couldn't be matched to a licence address. They're included in the statewide ranking but not in any region. "Not open" counts active retail licences with no recorded sales.

Per-resident figures divide region sales by the resident population of the region's counties.
